Love Aware – Day 7: Pursuit with Holy Focus

April 12, 2015 by Mike Sansone Leave a Comment

Goose Flying SoloAs a lone goose flies calling out,
in pursuit of the one they’ve lost.
Like a cheetah races after her prey,
with focus no matter terrain’s cost.

Much like open arms of a mother’s heart,
Yearning for her grown child’s arms.
Lead me to a full-on pursuit of your love
Without distraction, keeping me from harm

As a spouse woos their love many years
to show loves continuing flame
I seek your heart and love, Lord
Confident you already know my name.

Creator, Sustainer, Giver of Eternal Life
Thank for comforting me with your truth.
I love you with all my heart,
And in Holy Focus I remain in pursuit.

Love Aware – Day 6: Complacency Strikes

April 11, 2015 by Mike Sansone Leave a Comment

bible-heart-crownComplacency strikes at the top of a peak,
When things are going just fine and dandy.
It seems at these times, Lord, I think only of me
Thinking of you if and when you might come in handy.

So focused on my own well-being,
and comfortable in new found ease
Pride takes over and I let go of you
Soon and quickly I neglect to please.

Forgive me, Dear God, for being so obtuse
Thank you for guiding me humbly low.
Whether peaks or valleys, I love you Lord!
New and various ways I’ll seek to show

Lifestyles Not My Kind

April 10, 2015 by Mike Sansone Leave a Comment

working on laptop in coffee shop

I know this guy. He hunts and fishes and celebrates his bounty with boisterous excitement to all within his vocal aim. His lifestyle is not my lifestyle. When I see him, I tell him in some way, “I love you, man.” And I do. With Christ as my example.

I know this woman. Hard-working mother and wife. Except for her smoking habit, she’s in great health. She likes to talk about what she watches on television (usually reality TV) or how she did at the bingo games. Her lifestyle is not my lifestyle. When I see her, I find a way to let her know, “I love you, friend.” And I do. With Christ as my example.

I know this young guy. He has a giving heart and a contagious laugh. His tattoos are colorful and abundant. His partner doesn’t have tattoos (that I’ve seen), but he’s probably thinking about it because he’s often bragging about the other guy. He has smiling eyes. Their lifestyle is not my lifestyle. When I see them together, we laugh and smile. I want to show them, “I love you guys.” And I do. With Christ as my example.

There are many people who do things differently, living lifestyles that are not my kind of lifestyle. I want to love them. I find ways to love them. When I look for ways to love, it’s easy to find. And I do.

With Christ as my example.

Love Aware – Day 5: On Those Mornings

April 10, 2015 by Mike Sansone Leave a Comment

Morning Cup Love Aware MorningsOn those mornings
As I woefully, anxiously awake
When filled with stress and worry
Pondering my life’s mistakes

With prayer, I stop
In order to ease my mind
Giving Jesus my burdens
And so again I find

Rather than living the hurried pace
Tripping over problems perceived
Slowing to here, seeking your face
Noticing blessings received

On those mornings
As I wonderfully, miraculously awake
Fill me with joy and grace
As I leave my problems for you to take.

Love Aware: Day 4 – Joy Overcome Me

April 9, 2015 by Mike Sansone Leave a Comment

joyful man on beach

Joy, overcome me
Flooding in and out of every pore.
Drowning out any other emotion
Noticing God’s testimonies like never before.

With child-like wonder
Awe that captures my breath
Noticing God’s fingerprint
In all things wide, high, and in depth.

From healing a wound
to watching squirrels at play
and as the season’s flower blooms…

Let me see Kingdom Design
with a Christ-like lens and view
especially in times of darkness and gloom.

Like Paul in a jail,
Or David with but a stone,
Or Joseph meeting those that betrayed…

Let Joy overcome me
Giving praise to your name and glory
With immense thanksgiving for the blood price paid.

Love Aware: Day 3

April 8, 2015 by Mike Sansone Leave a Comment

love aware day 3 stanzaPlease God, forgive me of my sin.
Especially those I do over and again.
Holy Spirit guide and protect
From my enemies, even myself
Whenever my thoughts stray
When I put God on a shelf.

Let my focus be on you, Lord
All day and even more so
So I don’t take your love for granted
And I ever more closer I grow.

Stop me from my thoughts and deeds,
When they neither glorify or please.
As temptation nears and sin closes in,
To my knees in prayer I’ll come again.

Love Aware: Day 2

April 7, 2015 by Mike Sansone Leave a Comment

Awaken me, O Lord
early in the day,
Allowing a special time
for just You and I.

Keep my thoughts anchored,
Set a Foundation for this time.
A pace and place that will resonate
With each turn and tide.

If my thoughts stray,
Or cease to glorify –
Awaken me from my stupor
So I may refocus my purpose.

Towards you, I desire to live
In your service and setting
Whether alone – or in a crowd
Give my thoughts a secure path.

Let not my foot fall outside of it.
Protect me, please, if I stray
And gently align me again
So that I may be always aware…

Of your presence,
Of your power
Your enduring love and faith
With gratitude and love in return.

Love Aware: Day 1

April 6, 2015 by Mike Sansone Leave a Comment

O Lord, I know you’re there,
Actually here, and always. Everywhere.
And yet I desire, as you must too,
for me to draw and grow ever near to you.

In your word I read,
By Spirit’s guidance I feel,
And all evidence shows
How Jesus lives for real.

I’ve fallen short many times,
to show my faith and wonders.
I’ve made mistakes big and small,
Some permanently damaging blunders.

This morning a gut-check:
Your voice says, “Do these 100 days,
Do so unto God as audience,
Make a joyful noise with praise.”

“To shine a light so others can see
What comes out from me to you
Provide an obedient example,
So others might love me too.”

To grow in love, draw immediately near
God is and always had been hear
Abide vulnerably without fear.

Love Aware: The 100 Day Project

April 6, 2015 by Mike Sansone Leave a Comment

Love Aware Day 1

Today begins The 100 Day Project, a celebration of making.

Reading about #The100DayProject, this caught my eye:

A process of surrender, a practice of showing up.

Quickly and crystal clear, as if hearing God’s voice, I knew what my project would be.

Surrender and Show Up

I love the Pslams. A combination of prayer, praise, confession, and love letters to God. Looking at Psalm 100:

  • Make a joyful noise
  • Serve the Lord with gladness
  • Come before Him with singing
  • Know that the Lord is God
  • Enter with thanksgiving
  • Bless His name

My project? Love Aware – 100 days of love letters to God.

With great anticipation, I am looking forward to the transformation sure to take place during this love affair I call Love Aware.

Among the “Whosever”

Open Bible

I went to support a friend.

An Amway meeting. Not some gathering in a living room or even a hotel conference room. This was a large, 4-day weekend event at a national arena. A convention filling the arena. And I found a seat in the rafters.

Open-minded, I could see my friend’s enthusiasm and focus on his new promise for success. I also knew I was missing something, though I wasn’t sure this kind of thing was my cup of tea.

I went each day and found my nosebleed seat. I brought reading material. I did some writing. Supportive.

On Sunday morning, a star performer in the region began talking about how his front lawn had become his monument, his idol. He worked hard on his job every day, then came home and worked hard on his home and family every day. Every day. And then he found out something.

Here it comes, right? The big fireworks finale about this wonderful company on the last day of the convention, right? Nope. That’s not what he found (though he did eventually find the company).

The last two words I heard him say: Jesus Christ. I don’t know or don’t remember anything else he said, though he talked for another 20 minutes.

It was as if someone had grabbed my guts, heart, and brain and began wringing me out like a saturated sponge. I did hear the altar call and made it downstairs in the midst of my tears and spittle. They handed me a small New Testament and a sheet of paper listing a few verses I should read. Included in those verses was John 3:15 and the word: Whosoever.

That whosever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Whosever includes me (and you).

I took the next day off and was at the Christian bookstore early. I listened to every preacher on the radio and found some good old Southern Gospel music to calm my fears and imaginations. On fire to make up for lost time (I was 34 years old), I devoured everything I could get my hands, eyes, and ears on.

The friend who invited me to the convention may have no idea what has transpired since that day. The service I’ve been privileged to do, the preaching I’ve been honored to give, or the years of struggle and trial for His name sake. While I’ve made plenty of mistakes and errors that didn’t glorify God, I strive to learn and apply His word in my heart and my life.

Thank you Jesus, for salvation. And thank you, Ted, for that invite almost 20 years ago.
